Best office chair headrest attachments
Two figures decide this and most listings publish neither: how far the headrest moves, and how thick a backrest the clamp will close around.

What we did and did not do
Units we claim to have tested: 0. Everyone in this category says they tested twenty chairs. We have not sat in any of these, and we say so.
What we did instead: compiled every figure each manufacturer publishes, computed the fit ranges from a cited anthropometric table, and linked the source for each number so you can check the arithmetic. Where a manufacturer does not publish a figure, we say that rather than filling the gap. The full method, including what we cannot assess, is here.

Buy the RQUOIRE. It publishes 7.5 to 10.6 in of height - 3.14 in of travel - plus a tilt angle and a front-to-back distance adjustment, which is more movement than any CHAIR on this site publishes for its own built-in headrest. If you own a Herman Miller Classic Aeron, buy the ERGOKING instead: it is built for that one chair and publishes more angles than anything else in the field.
Before any of that: measure the thickness of your chair's backrest at the top edge. This is the figure that decides whether a clamp-on headrest attaches at all, and it is the one buyers skip. The windows in this field are narrow - 0.79 to 0.94 in on one, 0.6 to 0.91 in across three fastener sizes on another - and a back outside the window means the clamp simply will not close.
A headrest is not a neck cure, and the placement rule is unforgiving. OSHA's target is that your head stays level and in line with your torso. A headrest set too high pushes your chin down; set too low it pushes your head forward. That is why travel matters more than padding here: a cushion that cannot reach the base of your skull is a cushion in the wrong place.

01 · Best Overall
RQUOIRE Clamp-On Headrest Attachment (yztk001)
8.6/10 · scored on the published rubric
Publishes more headrest travel than any CHAIR on this site does - 3.14 in of height, 36 degrees of tilt and a neck joint that tilts up to 90 - and bolts onto the chair you already own.
Why you might not: It only fits a backrest 0.7 to 0.98 in thick, so measure yours before you buy. On a mesh-framed back with no flat panel it will not attach at all.
| Platform height | 7.5-10.6 in |
|---|---|
| Footprint | 14 x 5.5 in |
Adjustments published (3): height (7.5-10.6 in, 3.14 in of travel); tilt angle (36 degrees); neck joint tilt (up to 90 degrees).
Not published by the manufacturer: warranty term; load rating; foam density. We have flagged these rather than guessed.

02 · Best Published Fit Window
ECOSI TOP119 Universal Headrest Attachment
7.2/10 · scored on the published rubric
The only headrest here that publishes a compatibility matrix instead of the word "universal": three fastener sizes, each matched to a stated backrest thickness. That is the figure that decides whether it fits your chair at all.
Why you might not: It publishes the fit window but not the travel - no height range in inches, no tilt in degrees - so you know it will attach without knowing how far it moves once it has.
| Footprint | 9.84 x 5.91 in |
|---|
Adjustments published (3): height, adjustable; angle, adjustable; three fastener sizes, published against backrest thickness: the 0.87 in fastener for a 0.6-0.75 in back, the next size for 0.75-0.91 in.
Not published by the manufacturer: height travel in inches; tilt range in degrees; warranty term. We have flagged these rather than guessed.

03 · Best for a Classic Aeron
ERGOKING CLBK1 Headrest for the Classic Aeron
9.0/10 · scored on the published rubric
More published movement than anything else in this category - 3 in of height above the backrest, 36 degrees of cushion tilt and a neck joint to 76 degrees - and it names exactly which chairs it fits and which it does not.
Why you might not: It fits the Herman Miller Classic Aeron (1994-2016) in sizes A, B and C, and nothing else. On a Remastered Aeron or any other chair it will not attach, and it costs several times what the universal clamps do.
| Platform height | 6-9 in |
|---|---|
| Footprint | 15.5 x 5 in |
Adjustments published (4): height, 6 to 9 in above the backrest; cushion tilt, 36 degrees; neck joint angle, up to 76 degrees; removable coat hanger.
Not published by the manufacturer: warranty term; load rating; foam density. We have flagged these rather than guessed.

04 · Most Measurable Mount
Wealrit WX1766 Adjustable Headrest Attachment
6.6/10 · scored on the published rubric
The most dimensionally specific listing in the field: pillow size, mounting base length and hole center distance are all published, so you can measure your own backrest and know before you order.
Why you might not: 1.5 in of height travel is the least of any adjustable headrest here. If your chair's back is tall, 7.5 in may still leave the cushion below the base of your skull.
| Platform height | 6-7.5 in |
|---|---|
| Footprint | 10.24 x 5.9 in |
Adjustments published (3): height, 6 to 7.5 in; angle, up and down; mounting base 4.17 in long with a 2.75 in hole center distance.
Not published by the manufacturer: tilt range in degrees; warranty term; backrest thickness window. We have flagged these rather than guessed.

05 · Best for a Thin Mesh Back
LNQ LUNIQI Mesh-Frame Headrest Attachment
6.6/10 · scored on the published rubric
The thinnest backrest window published here - 0.79 to 0.94 in - which is the band most modern mesh task chairs actually fall into, and the mesh frame matches a mesh back rather than sitting on it as a pillow.
Why you might not: The clip window is narrow in both directions: a thicker upholstered back will not go in it, and LNQ LUNIQI says plainly that not all chairs are suitable. It publishes no travel figures either.
| Footprint | 10.62 x 8.66 in |
|---|
Adjustments published (3): height, adjustable; angle, adjustable; 2.6 cm clip, published as fitting a backrest 2 to 2.4 cm thick (0.79 to 0.94 in).
Not published by the manufacturer: height travel in inches; tilt range in degrees; warranty term. We have flagged these rather than guessed.

Skip This Unless the Cover Decides It
OSZZT Ergonomic Headrest with Washable Cover
5.4/10 · scored on the published rubric
The widest pillow in this field at 11.81 in, filled with high-resilience memory foam, with a cover you can take off and wash - which on something your hair touches daily is worth more than it sounds.
Why you might not: Skip this if fit matters to you. It publishes no travel, no tilt and no backrest thickness window, so "height and angle adjustable" is the entire specification.
| Footprint | 11.81 x 6.69 in |
|---|
Adjustments published (3): height, adjustable; angle, adjustable; removable washable cover.
Not published by the manufacturer: height travel in inches; tilt range in degrees; backrest thickness window; warranty term. We have flagged these rather than guessed.

Measure these three things first
- Backrest thickness at the top edge. A tape measure across the top of the back panel. Most mesh task chairs land between 0.7 and 1 in; an upholstered executive back can be double that and will not fit anything here.
- Whether the top of the back is flat. These clamp to a panel. A mesh chair with an open frame and no flat top rail has nothing to grip, and no amount of "universal" in the listing changes that.
- How far above your backrest the base of your skull sits when you are upright with your shoulders relaxed. That distance is what the published travel has to cover - and in this field it runs from 1.5 in to 3.14 in.
How we ranked these
- Fit range - published height travel in inches, then the backrest thickness window the clamp states. A headrest that publishes "adjustable height" and no number cannot be ranked here.
- Adjustability - countable published axes. The best in this field move on three (height, tilt, front-to-back); the worst state two and quantify neither.
- Size and footprint - published pillow dimensions, which decide whether it supports the base of your skull or just the back of your head.
- Materials and build - mesh versus sponge, frame material, and whether the cover comes off. No maker in this field publishes a warranty term or a load rating.
- Spec coverage - how many of the above the maker publishes. The full rubric is here.
Every published figure, side by side
| Headrest | Height travel | Other axes | Backrest window | Pillow size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RQUOIRE (rank 1) | 7.5-10.6 in (3.14 in) | Tilt 36 deg, front-to-back | 0.7-0.98 in | 14 x 5.5 in |
| ECOSI TOP119 (rank 2) | - | Angle, unquantified | 0.6-0.91 in, 3 fasteners | 9.84 x 5.91 in |
| ERGOKING CLBK1 (rank 3) | 6-9 in above the back | Tilt 36 deg, neck joint 76 deg | Classic Aeron A/B/C only | 15.5 in wide |
| Wealrit WX1766 (rank 4) | 6-7.5 in (1.5 in) | Angle, unquantified | - | 10.24 x 5.9 in, 2.75 in bolt centers |
| LNQ LUNIQI (rank 5) | - | Angle, unquantified | 0.79-0.94 in | 10.62 x 8.66 in |
| OSZZT (rank 6) | - | Angle, unquantified | - | 11.81 x 6.69 in |
Two of these are worth reading twice. The ECOSI publishes a compatibility matrix instead of the word universal - three fastener sizes, each matched to a stated backrest thickness - which is the single most useful thing a maker in this category can print. And the Wealrit publishes its mounting base length and its bolt center distance, so you can hold a ruler against your own chair before you order.
When a headrest is the wrong purchase
If your neck hurts because your monitor is too low, a headrest changes nothing - you will still drop your chin to read, you will just have something behind your head while you do it. That is a monitor-height problem and it costs nothing to fix.
If your neck hurts because you are reaching forward to type, the cause is further down: a seat too deep, a lumbar curve unsupported, or a desk too far away. A headrest sits behind a head that is no longer near it. Chairs ranked on published neck and shoulder adjustment are here, and the diagnostic by location is here.
A headrest earns its place in recline. Leaning back to read or think is when your head needs support, and that is the use case worth buying for - which is also why the models that publish a tilt angle score above the ones that only pivot vaguely.
What we have not done
We have not fitted any of these to a chair. Every figure here is copied from the manufacturer's published specification with the listing linked on each card. Whether a clamp holds its angle after six months of being leaned on is not something a spec sheet can tell either of us.
Several listings in this category describe their headrests as relieving neck pain. We are not repeating that as a benefit. Nothing on this site is medically reviewed, and persistent neck pain is a reason to see a clinician rather than to buy a cushion.
What we looked at and left out
Exclusions are explainable or they are not exclusions. Each of these failed a published disqualifier, and the reason is the spec, not a preference.
| Product | Why it is not ranked |
|---|---|
| Omhuzsyo yztk Clamp-On Headrest Attachment | Publishes figures identical to the RQUOIRE at rank 1 - the same 7.5 to 10.6 in travel, the same three axes, the same model family and the same backrest warning - at the same price. Ranking both would be the same product listed twice. |
| Branch Adjustable Ergonomic PRO Headrest Attachment | Fits the Branch Ergo Chair Pro and nothing else, and unlike the Aeron-specific option at rank 3 it publishes no travel, no tilt and no pillow dimensions. Chair-specific is a good reason to buy a headrest; chair-specific with no figures is not. |
